Friday's appointment went well. The doctor did a full sonogram, looking at toes, fingers, feet, hands, heart, etc. There were times she was marking parts that just looked blurry to us... like "bladder". Just looked like a blob but she's the expert and knows what to look for!
There's one thing that concerned her a teeny, tiny bit but she said she doesn't see it will be an issue at this time. Instead of 3 blood vessels going up/down the umbilical cord to/from the baby, there are only 2. This is apparently super common and if it causes any issues, it could be heart related. However, she said that the Peanut's ticker looks perfect right now and is functioning as expected (heart rate in 150s, which is great). Blood flow is going to/from the Peanut's heart like it should. The doctor just wants us to come back in about 6 weeks so she can keep an eye on it and make sure the heart is developing like it should. Hopefully the Peanut will continue to do well and it will just give us an opportunity to get more photos of our baby to pass along to his/her proud Grandpa Ralph! He posts the sonogram photos by his desk. :-)
Isn't it amazing that they can look at a sonogram of something about 6 inches in length and know how many blood vessels there are in the umbilical cord? That cord can't be very wide. Totally amazing... This whole process is amazing to us.
As you can tell, I am not revealing the gender at this time. My father-in-law reads the blog (Hi Ralph!) and he doesn't want to know. We are going to try our best to keep it a secret for as long as possible. So if you don't know the gender and want to know, email me! I'll be happy to tell ya. But out of respect for my father-in-law, I will refrain from revealing the Peanut's gender at this time.
Hugs from the Peanut Gallery to everyone!
